VPN connection drop

When I connect to my VPN (l2ip) I can browse fine. The problem is when the iPhone goes into auto lock. Then the vpn connection drops. Wifi continues to work so It's an iOS problem.

How does one maintain a persistent VPN connection, whether or not in standby?

There's a big thread but no solution. Some say it's a "feature" to conserve battery but iOS keeps wifi on so I see no reason to mantain the VPN too.

It might have some jailbreak solution. Hopefully simple and doesn't drain the battery.

There is an app in Cydia called insomnia that keeps everything running after the phone locks. I don't know if it has been kept up to date with 5.x because the last time i used it was on 2.x I think lol

But it's worth a look.

What does it do when your using VPN connected to 3G? does it disconnect then? I think maybe KeepAwake in Cydia might help... I use the Juno Pulse app for VPN and it never drops, I even have to open the app back up and disconnect the session...

VPN drops is because of sleep mode. everything goes to sleep.

there is alot of tweaks for these:

preventsleep
sleepdepriver
insomnia pro (can be found on sinfuliphone repo)

Wifi also stops when your phone goes to sleep so it's not an os problem. My Motorola Xoom does the samething.

I didn't knew wifi stops too. I thought the connection was on all the time since I received push notifications while in sleep mode (or at least I thought it was in sleep mode).

I'm using VPNonly to protect my connection but using applications like insomnia might drain the battery too fast.

Wifi kinda checks in every now and then but in sleep mode it is not constant
