Windows 8 & Microsoft Surface Ranting + Start8 for Windows 8

I know there have been crybaby fanboys that have had their fragile feelings hurt when I've ripped on Crapple in the recent months due to their ridiculous antics of recycling the same devices over and over and over and over and over again. But as you'll clearly see below, I'm an Equal Opportunity Hater, and I got no problem calling ANY company out when they do stupid shit! Especially a company like Microsoft whom I have ALWAYS spoke very highly of!
With that being said, it seems like Crapple isn't the only company acting like a fuck up these days. Microsoft is sure going hard acting like a fuck up with a some of the dumb shit they been doing lately. Like why the hell didn't they release the Surface PRO along side the Surface RT?? I mean lets be honest here, if we wanted a dumbed down tablet like the Surface RT then we would all just stick to using the etch-a-sketch iPad! Microsoft comes outa the woodwork with a kick ass product and they go and fuck it up by WAITING to release the Surface PRO until the beginning of 2013! Like seriously why the HELL would you wait and NOT release that shit BEFORE CHRISTMAS which is the biggest shopping time of the year?
What the hell is up with Windows 8? What's with these retarded ass tiles? It's bad enough I gotta see this crap when I turn on my XBox but now they want me to see it every time I boot up my computer?? It looks so cheesy and tasteless I just don't understand what group of morons think this shit up!
Worst of all, WHERE THE FUCK IS THE START MENU??? No more start menu are you kidding me? Not even an option in the control panel to turn it back on if I want Like what fucking group of morons over at Microsoft decided that after 17 years it was time to just drop the start menu without even making an attempt to phase it out?? That's like going into GameStop tomorrow only to find out that they don't sell games anymore!
Clearly Microsoft thinks that because Crapple does stupid shit and gets away with it that they're gonna follow in their footsteps or something! Shit just doesn't make any damn sense to me
< /RANT >
I personally am gonna stick with Windows 7 since it's gonna take a hell of a lot more than some cheesy looking tiles to get my ass to switch to Windows 8! But for those of you who have upgraded to Windows 8 or are planning to do so in the near future and are dreading NOT having a Start menu, I have good news! There is an amazing tweak called Start8 which brings the start menu to the Windows 8 operating system. There are other tweaks out there that allow you to bring the start menu over to Windows 8 but having tested them all personally, believe me when I tell you that NONE of them compare to Start8 which looks and works so well that you'd never know Windows 8 didn't actually come with a Start Menu Only downfall to Start8 over the other tweaks is that Start8 is not free however at a small price of only $5, it's more than worth it!
Of course I would never leave a fellow SINNER without other alternatives so below is a full version of Start8 that requires no activation. If you like Start8 then I strongly suggest you head on over to Stardock Corporation and make a donation to support those guys for creating this much needed tweak as clearly Microsoft dropped the ball on this one
Start8_v1.0_NoActivation.exe

i personally like it, been playing around with it for a bit and now im kinda used to it.
its down to prefrence, each to there own.
i was a lil annoyed that it was long to shutdown the pc so i just made a shutdown & restart tile.
create a shortcut on desktop
type shutdown /p to shut down Windows 8 immediately or shutdown -r -t 00 to reboot Windows 8 immediately
then change icon, then pin to start menu.

The tiles are fucking pointless.
I'm using it and I only use the desktop with start8.
It feels like a shitter version of windows 7.
Wish I didn't upgrade, tried downgrading had loads of driver issues.
I'm getting used to it but it's should only be for touch screen devices no good on anything else.

Look at the crap you have to do to even speed up the shutdown/reboot process. A tad unnecessary, if you ask me. A person having to tweak right out of the box to make things more simplistic says a lot about the quality of this OS.

I upgraded to windows 8 2 days ago and I think it's great. It has all the functionality of windows 7 with the addition of the start screen and start screen apps. Once you get used to the hotkeys instead of start menu I'm computering faster than I ever was. win+e for explorer, win+q for apps ,win+f for files. It even has a built in spotify type app(xbox music) which is great for ireland where spotify hasn't reached yet. You should give it a try before panicking about it

Just installed WIN 8 yesterday and I d0n't like it one bit.
First the most annoying thing is there is no start button in desktop and you can't have my computer icon on desktop except as a shortcut.
Very hard to find how to close tabs and no way to disable password for login.
Staying put on WIN 7 Ultimate for the time being.
I have to say that i expected more from new windows but i was greatly disappointed.
The only thing that's good is the boot up time.

I have been reading your rants about Windows 8. I have to disagree about it being a fuck up. They really should have considered training people on this, but they did not. The start menu is not gone really, there is just a different set of procedures to do everything. You have to get used to using the Windows Key, which is on the bottom left of your keyboard between the CTRL and ALT keys. It does many things and I will list all of the ones I know here for you guys. Once you learn these it will be a lot easier so here goes:
*BTW, this list is for English speakers obviously and I am only trying to help as I did not write this OS, so for those with serious issues and Microsoft Hate I cannot fix that.
Windows 8 Start Menu
WINKEY Toggles between Desktop and Start Menu
Esc Key If you have the Desktop running it will exit to desktop
whenever in Start Menu
WINKEY + , Provides Peak of Desktop if open
WINKEY + B Switch to the Windows Desktop and select the tray
notification area.
WINKEY + C Display Charms and notification
WINKEY + D Switch to the Windows desktop and toggle Show Desktop
(hides/shows any applications and other windows).
WINKEY + E Switch to the Windows desktop and launch Windows
Explorer with Computer view displayed.
WINKEY + F Search Files using the new Windows Search pane.
WINKEY + I Display Settings pane for the Start screen.
WINKEY + L Lock PC and return to Lock screen.
WINKEY + M Minimize the selected Explorer window.
WINKEY + O Toggle orientation switching on slate and tablet PCs.
WINKEY + P Display the new options for items like projectors.
WINKEY + Q Search within Apps using the new Windows Search pane.
WINKEY + R Switch to the Windows desktop and display the Run box.
WINKEY + U Switch to the Windows desktop and launch the Ease of Access Center.
WINKEY + X Switch to the Windows desktop and Administrative tools.
WINKEY + Z Display the App Bar in a Metro-style app.
WINKEY + 1, WINKEY + 2, WINKEY + 3 ,,,, Launches each of the classic desktop Task Bar apps from
Left to right.
Windows Classic Desktop Keys
WINKEY + . List all Running Apps
WINKEY + B Select the tray notification area.
WINKEY + C Display Charms and notification
WINKEY + D Toggle Show Desktop. Very cool feature to help find
other apps / shortcuts on desktop
WINKEY + E Launch Windows Explorer with Computer view displayed.
WINKEY + F Search Files using the new Windows Search pane.
WINKEY + I Display Settings pane for Windows Desktop
WINKEY + L Lock PC and return to Lock screen.
WINKEY + M Minimize the selected Explorer window.
WINKEY + O Toggle orientation switching on slate and tablet PCs.
WINKEY + P Display the new options for items like
projectors.
WINKEY + Q Search (within) Apps using the new Windows Search pane.
WINKEY + R Display Run box.
WINKEY + U Launch Ease of Access Center.
WINKEY + W Search Settings using the new Windows Search pane.
Defaults to Settings first
WINKEY + X Switch to the Windows desktop and Administrative
tools.
WINKEY + Left or Right Arrow Aero Snap Moves position of selected app
WINKEY + Up Arrow Will Maximize Selected App
WINKEY + Down Arrow Will Change app from Maximize to Normal then to Task Bar of Selected App
WINKEY + 1, WINKEY + 2, WINKEY + 3 ,,,, Launches each of the classic desktop Task Bar apps from
Left to right.
It may seem like lots, but it makes everything lots easier and after a while you do not even miss the start menu so much. Just try out the shortcuts, hopefully you guys find this useful. I'll post other 'HOW TO' guides if anyone needs it, just let me know.

I think Win 8 is awesome; use it as a tablet... sorry I mean toy then switch to work mode.
It's like the old days press F11 to hide the porn game at work... LOL
At least it's more useful than crapple ios.
Again you will need a tablet/ultrabook to find it useful.
If your just using a desktop or non-touch screen laptop it's useless.

even from the look on this list i can say it's a waste of time
trying to complicate things with learning all kind of shortcuts is not the way to go
one person who isn't a smart or sophisticated enough to read some on the net will stuck
at least i can say that for non english talking people, winkey + f means nothing(which by the way hasn't changed a long time), just because they doesn't even know what the word find means.
in my opinion it should all be about simplicity, it doesn't mean the OS can't be sophisticated, actually it should, but it all should be there, under the hood, who ever want to play, will play.

You're right. But most of those tweaks (at least for myself) are for increased performance, not interface and basic functionality issues.
I see why some people like Windows 8. It's different than usual (at least visually). That's the beauty of free thinking and if you like Windows 8, that's not a bad thing. However, it doesn't change the fact that just because something is new, it is necessarily also improved and should be accepted as such.
Look at Apple for plenty of that kind of thing.

I cannot agree more with MS fucking this up hardcore. It is like I took an iPad and implemented the exact iPad system on a Mac. A desktop is not a fucking tablet!!! They were lazy as all hell and the differences in the tablet and pc versions are so minimal it becomes a burden to use the pc version, prime example is the shortcuts.
Why would I want to have to refer to a list of shortcuts find the one I want then hit the buttons when before it was a simple mouse navigation or click?
granted would I eventually memorize these, well sure but why bother?
Preinstalled on the pc version should have been options to customize and implement options from win 7 to more of an extent.
As for the 7 sec boot up time, or at least the much quicker boot up time, ok that's great for some people but I for one do not ever completely power down unless a program I installed requires a re-boot or something similar. Even then my boot up time is at most 20 sec. I use power saving options like sleep mode and when I move the mouse...boom two seconds I see the monitor come up.
This is of basically no use at least to me. I can just see all of the mothers and fathers, or grandparents possibly being talked into an upgrade and many can barely, use the older versions they won't have a clue. Not to mention if they decide to buy a new computer this will be the preinstalled OS. Sure those of us who grew up in the computer age will catch on but this is more of a downgrade than going from xp to vista. How many of us went back to XP ? The did an upgrade to 7.
My opinion is MS needs to stick with what they know and stop trying to copy ideas from apple which as we all know many of the ideas created by apple were not too good to begin with.
If in two years we basically have to OS which are mirror images what is the point?
I fear, and this is purely speculation, apple and ms are possibly working together on tech which would create a single OS, or perhaps more likely this could be the beginnings of MS creating their own "sandbox" to an extent. Crazy theory? Maybe but we can all see the drastic turn MS in just a single OS upgrade.
