Downgrade ipad2 from iOS 7 using older blobs?

It was said on the Dev Team blog that an iPad 2 with 4.x and 5.x blobs can downgrade from iOS 6 to 5 or 4 using those blobs. If I now have an ipad 2 on iOS 7 and have valid blobs for 4.3.3, 5.1.1, and 6.1.2 from Tiny Umbrella is this advice still valid and can I use RedSnow to get down to any of those three versions and rejailbreak? Or am I limited to only going to 4.3.3 or 5.1.1 and 6.1.2 is out?

I am looking at this

Dev-Team Blog

Quote:
4. iPad2 owners (all three models) with saved 4.x blobs can use those instead, even from 6.x

if you have both 4.x and 5.x iPad2 blobs, you can always get to 5.x via the 4.x blobs, even if you’re currently on 6.x
you cannot get to 5.x from 6.x without the 4.x blobs (but you may still qualify for the iOS5-to-iOS5 restore described above)
if somehow you have 4.x blobs but no 5.x blobs, you can still go down to 4.x from 6.x
this only applies to iPad2 owners (they’re the only A5+ devices that ever had a public 4.x FW)
redsn0w still supports (but doesn’t require) jailbreaking A5+ devices at 5.0.1 and 5.1.1. Just head back to the first page after re-restoring to 5.x. It’s always much faster to jailbreak those FW versions with a freshly-restored device, before letting iTunes restore from a saved userland backup.
How exactly should I make the downgrade, if it is going to be to 4.3.3? Or how exactly if it will be to 5.1.1? Or how exactly, if I choose it to be to 6.1.2?

Thanks

I had the same problem. I used vmware and iFaith to stitch my IPSW, moved it to my OSX desktop and then restore with iTunes using the SHIFT+RESTORE. I did this because nothing worked for me on the mac either when I tried.

Actually, my ipad 2 is still on 6.1.2 jailbroken, but I am thinking about trying iOS 7 (not jailbroken), but just wanting to know if there is a road back that I can follow on the Mac, if I decide to revert to the older iOS versions I have the blobs for. Also, I have other jailbroken devices that I will not touch iOS 7 on, because I know its irreversible on those. I will be watching this thread before I do anything, as its not looking good. Maybe that road back is only for people leaving iOS 6 to go to 4 or 5 on the ipad 2?

No I was using the one before the present version. Whatever number that was lol. Didn't try on the latest, but don't think it should make a difference for the restore.

I haven't update my iPad2. I don't think you can downgrade to IOS 6 because it's an A5 chip. I have read back and forth comments on it and don't want to chance it till I know for a fact that it is supported by iFaith or whatever.

My advice..... Not worth the chance.

If you do upgrade and try to downgrade to 6 and it works, let me know by PM. I just want absolute confirmation lol

---------- EDIT ----------

Just read on this thread that iTunes 11.1 does not allow custom firmware installs. Maybe that's the problem... haven't tried since upgrading iTunes so don't know myself.

You can not downgrade an iPad 2 back to iOS 5/6, you are wasting your time.

The iPhone 4 can as long as you have blobs for it and you use an older version of iTunes to restore. ITunes needs to be 11.0.x or older. Just build a signed ipsw and go.

Older ITunes won't recognise ios7, error says update to the latest iTunes and restore. Latest iTunes keeps throwing error 1 or error 11......

Does the older iTunes load and give you the option to restore ?
If is does can you not do shift-restore and choose custom firmware?
Or just the error you mentioned and not showing Iphone ?

You can use iTunes 11.1, they found a fix. You just have to go into DFU with the app called "iReb"

Well, then, shouldn't we be able to downgrade an ipad 2 from iOS 7 back to iOS 4.3.3 (with 4.3.3 blobls), and then be able to take it up to iOS 5 or iOS 6 from there (if blobs are on hand for the 5.x or 6.x to be used)?

Intrested if this is possible too, have all blobs from 4.3.3 upto 6.x.x

Everyones answers are all over the place so try to take them with a grain of salt.

Most of the responses given above are pertaining to downgrading an A4 device (i.e. iP4) which can always be done (w/valid shsh blobs of course) due to the limerain bootrom exploit.

From what I understand though...

When people say you can't downgrade an A5 device, ....this is true, EXCEPT for the ipad2 which CAN downgrade because its the only A5 device that came out during 4.x., & hence therefore it can use the exploit in 4.x fw shsh blob verification/authentication. As you already posted, this is ONLY possible if you've saved 4.x, 5.x, & 6.x blobs.

Now for your question,....I have no idea if this will still work to downgrade from iOS7.

My original thought was since the saved 4.x blobs are used as your entry point for the restore, I would assume its still possible but IDK.

Considering this exploit is reliant on Redsnow, I'm not sure if the recent itunes update/custom restore comments above would be relevant for this type of restore. Maybe try to tweet Musclenerd for more clarification if its first possible and second if the old Redsnow will still work.

Sorry, I dont know the answer but I still think it "should" be possible.

Please post back with any new findings or developments.

Basically you can't downgrade to 6.1.2 even if you have shsh blobs saved. Either redsnow or iTunes [older version] will not work on that.

The 4.xx/5.xx thing downgrade using redsnow will not work either. Besides from redsnow not being updated, iOS 7 has a different architecture which will surely breaks redsnow's code just like what it does on iha8sn0w's tools.

You can give it a try though. But even if you manage to downgrade to 4.xx/5.xx you can never go back to 6.1.2.

Give it a shot and let us know if it works and all the steps used to do it.

I would take the risk but I need my JB for gamepass, so that risk is off the table for me.
