iOS 5.1 Patches Corona Untethered Jailbreak! Get on iOS 5.0.1 while you can!

Well can't say I didn't see this coming but yes it's been confirmed that iOS 5.1 beta 3 closes the exploit for the Corona untethered jailbreak. iOS 5.1 is currently in beta, but will be released to the public very soon.

If you want an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, then we recommend that you stay on iOS 5.0.1, or you CONSIDER updating to iOS 5.0.1 if you have not already done so. Since iOS 5.1 closes the exploits used in iOS 5.0.1 with the Corona untether, more exploits will need to be found to jailbreak iOS 5.1 untethered. A4 devices will likely have a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 at least because of the fact that A4 devices have a bootrom exploit. A5 devices on the other hand won't be so lucky. A5 devices also currently have no way to downgrade firmware, so again I emphasize, if you want an untethered jailbreak then get on iOS 5.0.1 while you have the chance!

Another thing worth noting is that Crapple usually continues to sign the previous FW for short amount of time AFTER a new FW is released. So if you have an iPad 2 that is Jailbroken on iOS 4.3.3 and you're not wanting to update to iOS 5.0.1 just yet and want to try to wait until the last minute possible so that you can retain your iOS 4.3.3 Jailbreak you could always wait it out and hopefully an iOS 5.0.1 A5 Jailbreak will be released BEFORE iOS 5.1 drops. Otherwise like I said you could wait till the very last second and hope that when iOS 5.1 drops you can still update to iOS 5.0.1 that is if you're willing to take that risk. Like I said in the past Crapple has continued to sign the previous FW for a short amount of time but that doesn't mean that things can't/won't change.

If you have an iPhone 4S then there is NO REASON for you to stay behind on previous FW's. Make sure you UPDATE TO iOS 5.0.1 ASAP!!! Also take note that there are TWO VERSIONS of iOS 5.0.1 for the iPhone 4S. A newer version was released shortly after the first release to fix a "NO SIM" issue. The one that you want to be using has a build name of Telluride 9A406 and here is the OFFICIAL DOWNLOAD LINK!

As always make sure that you BACKUP your APticket and SHSH blobs. Even though A5 device users cannot downgrade at this time you should still save them anyways that way when/if a solution to downgrading is found you will be able to downgrade. I would suggest backing them up to YOUR COMPUTER and NOT relying on Cydia to save them for you because you never know what might happen or if Cydia is having server issues and you need to restore your device you won't be able to. So it's best to back them up yourself and use TinyUmbrella or iFaith for restoring.

***UPDATE***

Ok let me clarify something for you guys who are all confused about the two different build versions. 9A405 was originally released for all current iDevices. However people were having "NO SIM" issues with the iPhone 4S so Crapple fixed the issue and released 9A406 So the 4S is the ONLY DEVICE with that build number.

Q: Will the 5.0.1 jailbreak work on 9A405 AND 9A406 when it's released?
A: YES IT WILL WORK FINE!!

Q: What's the benefit of upgrading from 9A405 to 9A406?
A: The benefit is that apparently there was some kinda sim card issue so they fixed it in the newer build. So by updating you're not gonna run into that sim card issue.

Q: Well I haven't had any sim card issues so why should I upgrade?
A: I dunno that's your call however me personally if Crapple took the time to release a newer build because of an issue I would just fuckiin update just to be on the safe side because you're gonna be shit outa luck later on if you change your mind. I mean honestly what it comes down to is laziness on your part of not wanting to restore your device. I mean lets be honest, I know how cumbersome it can be having to restore a Jailbroken device but your device isn't Jailbroken so it's not like you're gonna have to restore all your Cydia apps and reinstall your themes etc. iTunes is gonna do all the work for you as far as backing up and restoring all your stuff. So really you shouldn't be using that as an excuse not to upgrade.

It's been year's since I played the cat and mouse game, but here we are... back at it again. I'm going to save my 5.0.1 now. My iPhone 4S is boring with out a jailbreak, so I hope a downgrade and jailbreak method is presented soon. It seems like work is harder, now that Comex is gone, right? And where is Geohot in the mist of all this? So many questions.

Since you have 5.0.1, you can keep your jailbreak now, then upgrade to 5.0.1 when a jailbreak is available to be used.

Whatever happens I'm not gonna be the guinea pig if Apple has already released 5.1 and then the 5.0.1 untethered for 4s comes out!

I'll wait it out just like when they released 5.0.1 untethered for iPhone 4, that shit was very buggy. What if 5.1 is out and I jailbreak my 4s and it's fucked, then I'll be forced to update to 5.1.

They should release it now when 5.1 is still beta stages. At least if we fuck it we still can restore to 5.0.1.

Yes for iPhone 4 on 5.0.1 you need to use ifaith and create a custom firmware with blob and APTicket in order to be able to downgrade when apple closes the signing window.

I have an iPhone 4 on iOS v5.0.1 JB working perfectly.
I have an iPhone 4S also upgraded to iOS v5.0.1 as recommended. It is basically sitting in it's box waiting for an A5 JB. I will not use it until a JB as I would really miss the Cydia apps like Firewall IP, AppLocker and other apps which only can run on a JB phone as Apple refuses to permit such applications as a firewall or application locker app.
Keep up your efforts the JB community! I am sure the A5 JB is coming soon.....
