Getting sound through the iPod speakers and headphones at the same time

I have my headphones that came with the ipod fully in and I can hear the music through them just fine but for some odd reason the sound is also blasting through the ipod speakers outloud. I was wondering why everyone was staring at me sheesh I didnt even notice til I took my headphones out. I tried taking them out and putting them back in and I have the same problem. I tried putting in some other type of headphones and same problem. Whats up with this? Did i accidentally turn some feature on?

---------- EDIT ----------

Update: I tried a few more things with no success so I restarted my ipod and booted it back up with blackra1n(damn tethered jb lol) and now its working correctly. Any idea how i can prevent this from occurring again? Next time i might not be so lucky being so close to a computer that has blackra1n on it. Is this a backlash of jailbreaking?

Update 2: Im getting a similar problem again. Now im only getting sound through my headphones, even when i take my headphones out and adjust the volume is says headphones over the volume thing. Jesus whats wrong with this thing?

I have run into the same issue before, but I never figured out exactly what was causing it. I have restored my firmware and reinstalled software to have it go away and then come back.

I've had this happen once(luckly only once) and a SBsettings to safemode then a exit safemode restart fixed it for me. I'm guessing it's something to do with the actual iphone headphone jack not recognizing that you have the device pluged in properly, even though it's playing through the headphones there's an automatic kill that should stop your speakers.
