For all of those afraid of upgrading or having an "accident" on their device!

Recently I have seen a lot of threads like regrading upgrading:

- My phone upgraded itself, now what?
- My cat upgraded my phone
- A galatic alinement due to a supernova caused my computer to upgraded my phone on its own while I was busy fighting a giant mutant chicken

Well no more!
Go to cydia
Add the source: cydia.pushfix.info
Install "RecoveryGuard"

Your phone can now only be restored/updated in DFU mode and iTunes will always think it is up to date

For those afraid of bootloops (especially on an iPhone 4S/iPad 2)
Update mobile-substrate!
If you are on the latest update you are fine

If you go into a bootloop!
Hold the home a power button until your device displays the apple logo
Hold the volume up button until your device is on (mobile-substrate will be disabled)
Remove the tweak you previously installed
Reboot

Now hopefully this will fix all accidents!
For all you blokes out there who will still mess something up
Save your SHSH blobs with tinyumbrella and iFaith (even if you have a 4S)
If I have helped please press the little thanks button in the right hand corner

Depends on your definition of accident, my 3Gs was on 4.1 and I tried to upgrade using SHSH and Tiny Umbrella, I can jailbreak the phone however; it seems to have lost all radio functions except GPS.

THANKS! but have a ?

This is great but have a question for ya? accidentally yes! I am on my third iPhone 4s because of a reboot that caused the dreaded apple boot-loop but luckily i was still in my 30 day warranty exchange and had a hardware problem with those phones so I visited the apple store for an exchange and luckily the replacement phones was still on 5.0.1 so i am jailbroke again but i am afraid to do a reboot for fear for a lock and having to restore so i am constantly watching my battery so it doesn't die.

SO QUESTION IS- IF I REBOOT MY PHONE NOW , AND SAY FOR SOME REASON IT BOOT-LOOPS- CAN I RECOVER FROM THIS WITH THIS INSTALLED? i already installed it and was successful, so just want to know if i have to be cautious anymore and if i can reboot without worries?

I don't know what happened before ? i am pretty cautious about installing shit, mostly what i install is the popular tweaks and i make sure their ios 5 capable.

and is there an app that checks my system for problems that would cause a boot-loop before a reboot? that would be a VERY useful app that i would pay greatly for.. would be a piece of mind knowing nothing in the phone would cause an issue on a reboot..

thanks! and sorry for the long post, just wanting to make sure i dont loose my jailbreak this time- i use it tooo much -being stock sucks!...

Yeah I know man, I uz just sayin. It's kinda funny why some people do upgrade by "accident" ya know?

Plus all RecoveryGuard does is change the build number in /System/Library/CoreServices/systemversion.plist from whatever build your iOS is to 9z999.

So really all you have to do is change the build number in SystemVersion.plist to 9z999 and it has the same exact effect as installing RecoveryGuard does.

No, it also makes it so you can't press restore without going into DFU
It blocks iTunes from putting your device into recovery mode to start the upgrade/restore process

You cannot restore without using DFU mode on a jailbroken device period mate.

If an iDevice is jailbroken you cannot plug it in and just click restore. Not even Recovery Mode will restore a jailbroken device.

All jailbroken devices must enter DFU to restore......Even without any kind of tweak installed, let alone RecoveryGaurd.

But don't take my word for it....Try it out yourself.

Or just ask a knowledgeable Mod in which you trust.

Not true at all
I have restored plenty of jailbroken devices without DFU

It is how my less than tech savvy mother lost her unlock (by pressing upgrade)
FYI give me some credit

The only thing you can't do is over the air updates, itunes on the other hand has no problems there

Okay, your right mate..I stand corrected.

However i have tried upgarding without entering DFU by just clicking the upgrade button, but it didn't work. Must been something else.

My bad, my bad. Your right, your right:/

That's why I made this little guide so people couldn't upgrade
Some people since iOS 5 get 16xx errors when upgrading (that stop the device from restoring)

That may be what you had.
