Jailbreak to be released tomorrow 25/5/12 (info from Modmyi.com)

Organizers of the Hack in the Box Security Conference just announced 1-day passes for May 25th for the HitBSecConf 2012, currently being held at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam. It has been announced that pod2g and the Chronic Dev Team will be releasing Absinthe 2.0, the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 at the event.

This was confirmed with the following tweet by the organizers of the HitBSecConf 2012:

For those of you who didn’t already know about it, the HitBSecConf series takes place in Amsterdam, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, and Malaysia. It is an important event that is attended by security professionals from all around the world.

As reported previously, members of the jailbreak “dream team” such as pod2g, MuscleNerd, planetbeing, p0sixninja, and nikias were supposed to be attending the event. The iOS hacker, pod2g, previously said that the release of the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Apple TV was almost ready and set to release in just “a matter of days.” He seemed to have tested and confirmed that his iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak works with most devices except for the Apple TV 3G.

With that being said, it is suggested that he will be giving a live demonstration of the Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak during his presentation, followed by the release. The whole ordeal doesn’t come as much of a surprise overall as the Chronic Dev Team alluded towards some jailbreak goodness during the event previously. According to the agenda on the HitBSecConf website, the dream team’s jailbreak session isn’t scheduled to start until 11:30am CET (5:30am EST) in which the team will discuss the Corona jailbreak, followed by the session on the Absinthe jailbreak at 1:30am CET (7:30am EST). As of right now, the agenda hasn’t been updated so it still says jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 rather than iOS 5.1.1.

I bought a used iPhone that was already jailbroken. I'd like to update to 5.1.1 but since I didn't origiinally sync this phone to my iTunes account will a restore still work??

I did have a 4s a few months back that was new and I did sync it to my account. Can I just use that backup info to do a clean restore?

I'm just trying to figure out how to update to 5.1.1 without bricking.

I am still unsure what I should do with my iphone 4 updated BB and 4s both using the SAM exploit.
I do have both lockdown folders saved.
If I update using custom IPSW, jailbreak and replace files in lockdown will I be ok or is there more to it?

This is good news.... Im hoping upgrading/ re-jailbreaking will fix my issue with all my texts and contacts constantly being deleted/lost! Its getting worse and worse all the time. It seems every two or three days all my texts are gone, and once and a while my contacts disappear as well. i have to reload them via iCloud. its a real bitch.

Baseband does not matter if you used the SAM exploit and saved your Lockdown path.

You could restore to stock firmware and still be able to unlock as long as you backed up your activation ticket in the Lockdown path.
