I am buying used iphone 3gs need help!!!!

I am buying a used iphone 3gs today. I really will like for the experts here to tell me what I have to watch for. I mean is there a way to tell if the phone was service or if was open before and if they change the board or anything in the phone inside. What to test on the phone when I get it on my hands.


The phone description is never used before but open box and is Iphone 3gs(8Gb) and is asking $185 with 5.0.1 not unlock.

If it has 5.0.1, you can jailbreak it untethered. You're in good shape in that respect.

185 for a 3GS seems very steep.

Considering it isn't unlocked that should drop it down to 125-140 at best.

If it is past week 27 or whatever the cut off was, then it can not be unlocked via ultrasn0w and baseband 6.15.00.

- This also cuts into do you need the phone unlocked.
- If you do, you need to lose your GPS to do it.

I currently have a 3GS. Livewire195 is right about the week 27 cutoff, and mine is newer. I would rather have the GPS so I did not upgrade the baseband. I have a tethered jailbreak on 5.1.1, but I am not insane with tweaks so I do not worry about the phone rebooting and I only use tweaks that work and do not use too much memory. YOu might also want to remove daemons that you will not need. It is a decent phone, but I would like to upgrade yearly. Why not wait for the iphone 5? They will lower prices on the 4s by then that is my thinking since Apple generally does that.

att is selling a iPhone 4 8gig for 49 bucks with a 2 year contract--at least here in missouri

Yeah... I don't know the situation but I would recommend to go for a newer device at that price.

Save an extra $100 or so and get an IPhone 4.
