XMBC (please explain)
can someone tell me what is the benefit of XMBC?
i currently have my apple tv 2 jailbroken on fw 4.4.4
i also have firecore.
ok, what i use my apple tv for it to stream apple digital copiss for the kids (all the animated movies) and all the movies i have saved on my NAS drive.
for my nas drive i use the media server included with firecore and it works wonderfully.
can someone tell me whay XMBC is used for???
if anything, i do NOT want my laptop on to stream something from the pc to the apple tv......as mentoned, all my movies, music, pics etc are saved on my NAS drive.
can i get espn on XMBC?
what about hbo go or amazon prime?
i just need a little help as i dont understand what the big fuss about XMBC is for and if i should start using it more.

yes if u have an account for amazon prime yes u can. XBMC does a lot more, u can have access to ur local drives where u have movies and stream them. Usually I use it with oneclickmoviez, icefilms, and 1channel to stream movies from the net. So I dont have to download them on pc anymore

Pretty much anything you can imagine can be found on XBMC. You can stream almost every tv show and movie imaginable. You can get ESPN, Hulu, youtube, etc. You can even get live tv and pay per view events.
Some of the more popular add ons and what they do:
1channel, icefilms, watchseries, solar movie, tv-links, free cable: watch streaming movies and tv shows
superTV, ustvnow: live tv
sports devil, flashsportstreams: live sports and pay per view
pandora, grooveshark: stream music
NHL Gamecenter, NFL.com: browse content from sports sites

THIS was exactly what i was lookin for.
what every feature does and how to install it.
reading about all these things XMBC does is fine, finding a post that links me to everythin i need to know = fantastic!!!
do i have to stream all of these thru my pc's xmbc then to the apple tv or does apple tv just stream all those links above by itself?

your Apple tv will stream all those links.... you dont need your pc to run XBMC.

XBMC can stand alone with almost off of the plugins available. I use mine to stream downloaded content from my computer to my big screen with an AppleTV/XBMC on the other side of the house. I'm not sure what is available in Canada but you can use an OpenVPN router with DD-WRT firmware to access out of country content.
