There is no way to do it. It's a hardware issue not software so there is nothing you can install or do that will make it work. T-Mobile's 3G network runs on a completely different frequency than AT&T's and the iPhone is only setup to work with AT&T's frequency.

If you lack enemies, you're not doing something worthwhile!

no offense to those using at&t, but they suck. i worked there for 3 years, and while cs and phones are nice, their prices have no merit to be what they are. they are greedy mofo's as well. and as much as i hate to say it, their 3g coverage is lame. ive been waiting for 2 years for 3g to hit here, and verizon ended up buying out the space lmao! nah i like at&t

Not trying to say you are lying or something but there is no way he is using 3g if hes on tmobile. Did you actually test out his phone? he probably change his EDGE icon to a 3g icon. Hes fucking around with you.

put this shit to rest n00bs
this has been debated and cried about since before the 3g came out

THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL OR HEAVEN OR ON EARTH TO MAKE 3G WORK ON TMOBILE IN THE USA
europe is a different story
see here in america we are only free to do what we are told
tmobile uses frequency A
at$t uses frequency B
thats just how it is

you can try to dismantle a mytouch 3g from tmobile US and put its 3g card in the iphone in place of the at$t one
and IF ur phone still turns on after that, then you could rewrite the baseband to use the new hardware and frequency
THEN make the iphone OS understand all that
configure your parameters for throughput and bandwidth debugging troubleshooting and what not
and then of course make sure the unicorn jumps over the rainbow,
blah blah blah

so yeah, it can be done!
any super genius electronics/hardware wiz could do it.

so whos gonna be first to try????

When you have no service that means there's no signal. The cellular data network has othing to do with NO SIGNAL. The cellular data network is for your data plan. Even if you leave your cellular data network blank, your phone can still make and receive call and text messages but you definitely can't receive or send mms.

If I understand correctly, this has everything to do with the Tmobile service in my area.

hummmm...... When I put the SIM card in my old NOKIA 6103, the signal strength is full, but when I move it to the iPhone, I get NO SERVICE or one bar... I'll keep trying for a day or two in different locations to see if the reception is better. If not, then we might have investigate other options.

Will a new SIM card improve my reception? The current one is about 6 years old.

So sorry, Joecef. It was a rhetorical question. I was simply thinking aloud. Please forgive me. Won't happen again on this board!
