No more restoring to 3.1.2 FW for 3GS & IPT3G

Yes that's right I have just verified that Crapple is no longer signing the 3.1.2 FW for the iPhone 3GS & iPod Touch 3G which means that you will NOT be able to restore your device back to 3.1.2 FW UNLESS you either have your ECID Certificates saved on Cydia or on your computer.

Even if you haven't upgraded to 3.1.3 FW this still affects you because if you try to restore your 3GS or IPT3G with 3.1.2 FW then you will receive this message.

So be sure to STAY WHERE YOU ARE and DO NOT restore your device unless you have your SHSH file saved. This does NOT affect anyone EXCEPT iPhone 3GS & iPod Touch 3G users.

I will be creating an updated guide on how to restore your device if you already have your certificates saved but for now you can check out the following thread.

Just to clarify, that means, don't install any new crazy experimental apps.

If you fuck up, restoring to 3.1.2 for iTouch 3G and iPhone 3GS is now IMPOSSIBLE until you back up that SHSH.

And just to clarify that last post, it is now IMPOSSIBLE to backup your SHSH files for 3.1.2 FW because Crapple is no longer signing them so you can no longer get them.

I'm in big trouble guys, my Iphone froze and wouldn't reboot so yesterday I restored and now it has the new 05.12.01 baseband and 3.1.3 firmware. I m a gophone Iphone so I can't unlock. I'm using my mom's blackjack until the new unlock comes out please HELP!!!

Is this in reference to restoring back to 3.1.2. if you upgrade to 3.1.3. Or does it apply to all 3GS users, even if CYDIA already says it has the SHSH files on file? I am a newbie and I don't quite understand the SHSH thing.

As stated in the OP, this applies to ALL 3GS & IPT3G users no matter if you have upgraded or not. If you try to restore your device with 3.1.2 FW right now you will get the error message as posted in the OP.

If you got your SHSH file saved on Cydia or on your computer then you will be able to restore to 3.1.2 FW using a workaround.

and i was wondering if 3g/2g would restore to 3.1.2 or not

now i know!
so in summation:

2g and 3g can restore to 3.1.2 IF they are still at 3.1.2
they can also downgrade from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 HOWEVER, 3g users who need unlock will be F'd because their baseband was updated.

3gs and ipt3 users cannot restore to 3.1.2 if they have not saved their shsh blobs on cydia
IF they saved them they can restore from 3.1.2 to 3.1.2 but not from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2
and as always, unlockers will lose unlock.

ps: so now if 3gs & 3G phones are updated to 3.1.3 with new baseband they can be JB but not unlocked or they are totally fucked for now?

My phone is 4 months old and I noticed damn dust on d glass, what u guys think should I do? Update to 3.1.3 and go to the crapple to exchange and pray for old 3.1.2 or live with dust bunny?

Yes that is all correct with the exception of your last statement of 3GS users NOT being able to downgrade from 3.1.3, you should still be able to downgrade BACK to 3.1.2 if you have your SHSH file saved BUT I don't know how having the newer baseband from 3.1.3 will work on 3.1.2, I haven't tested it out yet.

IMO you are much better off having a 3GS that you have saved your SHSH file vs one that you don't have it. Your better off just taking it apart and cleaning the dust out yourself.

Hey guys just a little confused about this SHSH situation. Cydia says I have SHSHs on file for my 3Gs
i'm not sure if i'm suppose to do anything in Cydia to ensure that the SHSH is saved. New to all the JB stuff. All advice is welcome.

OK QUESTION WHAT IF YOU USE PAWNAGE TOOLS AND CREATE A 3.1.2 CUSTOM FIRM WERE AND THEN CHOOSE NOT PAWN BEFORE SO THE PAWNAGE TOOLS INSTALLS THE FIRMWEAR FOR U WILL THAT WORK TO RESTORE TO 3.1.2 ????????? DOSE ANY ONE KNOW THANX

With the 3g or 3gs the glass and digitilizer are seperate and it's easy to clean or replace the cracked glass. On the 2g the glass and digitalizer are glued together so if you crack your glass you gotta buy the whole new package not just the glass(stupid company fucking over the people that supported their company from the get go!). It took me about 3 hours, a scalpel and a hair dryer but I did manage to pry the glass(in about 100 pices)from the digitilaizer and put on my own glass but chances are your gonna fuck up the digitalizer so your better off living with a cracked screen if your on a 2g.

I should be getting my iPhone 3GS by Friday. Hopefully it's still on firmware 3.1.2. The first thing I will do is backup the SHSH and stuff by the way how you posted. If anything goes wrong I can still restore it back to 3.1.2 correct?
