help with general.plist file

I downloaded a modded general.plist file to replace the damaged one on my3G on 3.12. But when I placed in Applications>Preference, it didn't overwrite, it just added it as a general.xml under the original.plist. Is there one that is not in xml format?.

download plist editor for windows.you can open and edit it. put it on your desktop. open winscp and drap the plist into whereever you want it to be
