just be patient... i thought there was somethign wrong with mine. until recently it just said.. ON FILE! so yeah finally.. just have to wait it out..

Hey Sin,

Why is it everything in apple (for iphone/itouch) is getting more complicated? (like doing the ECID, etc...)

Come to think, if it weren't for jailbreaking, apple wouldn't have that "BIG" sales, isn't that right??

Just sharing my thoughts.. getting a little bit bored on this with apple... its always like a cat and mouse chase...

they just don't quit on hackers!!! (even if the have their own hackers employed)

i have my shsh on cydia but when ever i try to restore i get the 1600 error msg , i downloaded my shsh file and tried this method but still i get an error and i cant resotre , i tried with itunes 9.2 , 9.3 , 9.1 but all failed

dont know what to do if i needed a restore ( i dont need it right now but i might need it later ) and im still on 3.1.2

quick question the 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com goes at very bottom under everything else of your host file is this correct? I did this pinged gs.apple.com and got Pinging gs.apple.com [74.208.105.171] with 32 bytes of data!!!
and got what you said so I'm guessing did it right but here is my main question,since iTunes 9 came out I am not able to use it cause the iTunes store comes up as just blank white space!!everything works except that so I have to stay on iTunes 8 (and yes did all trouble shooting apple recomended and nothing) so will this still work on iTunes 8

There IS a God! Got it done. On a Mac!!! 3GS (old bootrom) (restored to 3.1.2 [recovery mode not dfu]) So beautiful... Thanks for such a lovely site Sin!!

im having a problem were when i try to edit the host file it wont let me save it... says path and filename are incorrect... any ideas? i've check permissions and i have full access..

im on windows vista and what i mean by permissions is i check the host file properties to make sure it wasn't set to read only, when i goto save the file after adding the new gs.apple.com it wont let me save it says "cannoct create... make sure path and filename are correct"

Do I have to use a custom IPSW for restoring 3.1.2 or can I use the original download from iTunes.. I copied it to a flash drive...

Update

Perhaps I didn't ask correctly Sorry still new at this...
I have my shsh saved in cydia.. Did all of this and even pinged it everything looked good

Windows:
1) Start -> Run -> C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
2) Right click "hosts" and click "Open" when the Open With box appears, select Notepad
3) Add this to a new line at the bottom: 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
4) Save the file


No my question is

Are you logged in as an ADMIN? Try taking ownership of the file. I am using Windows 7 and I don't have to change any permissions.

Well Im pretty sure it worked because I restored to 3.1.2 twice sense the 3.1.3 update. Thanks!!
