DFU Mode

i am trying to help a friend upgrade the firmware on there iphone 1st generation from 1.1.4 to 3.0 as they are in a different country i am doing it by remote desktop, the problem i am facing is getting there phone into dfu mode, when using redsnow 0.72 we get to the point where the buttons have to be held down as per the sequence prompted on screen, power for 2 secs, power and home for 10 secs then home for 30 secs, we wait for the countdown to complete and get a message saying that it didnt work and to go to google or you tube for info on how to get the phone into DFU mode....i know we are doing it correctly as we are following the same steps i followed on my iphone.....can anyone help with this apparant inability to get the phone into DFU mode....?

hi its power for 3 secs, power and home for 10 secs then home for 30 secs but make sure you are holding them down right i no that a couple of time i have tried but i was not holding them down hard another

i think its not d problem of putting ur iphone in DFU MODE.i think d problem s n the HOME BUTTON(Hardware problem).Coz i encounter that problem once.I follow also what the redsnow says and it always give's that error.I think its a hardware problem,try to open and clean up your home button and try try to rejailbreak again.Hope it helps.
