need help on a 3gs..

okay so i found a broken iphone 3gs on the streets of our neighborhood while jogging..

i think it fell from someone's pocket and got ran over by a car..

curious about the phone, i got it fixed up and hoping that i could use it..

but when i connected it on my itunes, it automatically upgraded to FW 3.1..

i knew nothing about iphones back then coz it happened a week ago..

now i know a little about the FW, JB and unlocks, and amazed about this phone's capabilities, i want to use it but when i tried to downgrade it back to 3.0 just to jailbreak it and wait for the unlock of the baseband, it crashed and had a 1603 error..

now when i tried restored it back to 3.1 using the update from itunes, it doesn't want to activate..i use the old at&t sim that i found the phone with..its deactivated..

now its stuck on the "slide for emergency" thing with icons of a USB connector and itunes..

the whole restoration went smoothly but when the phone is being activated by apple, it says that i need a valid simcard..

i really want to use this phone and i don't want the 150 dollars (the digitizer was smashed..i had to take it to a repair center..) that i've invested on repairing it go to waste..

can someone tell me what to do?

i'm a newbie on iphones but i really want to use it on a t-mobile..

please help me..

What Carrier are YOU planning to use with the phone? Like obviously I'm assuming that you have your own personal SIM CARD that you are going to use in the phone once you get it going right? Well what carrier are you with?

i'm planning to use a t-mobile sim..but don't have it right now because i just got here in the US..i'm from the Philippines originally..

Well your screwed then because since you already upgraded to 3.1 FW that means that your baseband has been updated as well. Currently there is NO SUPPORT for the new baseband. What you would have needed to do is to upgrade your phone with a CUSTOM IPSW file which bypasses the baseband update.

damn..i should have known better about iphones..is there any chance that an unlock or jailbreak for the 3gs with the upgraded baseband will be released?

itscalled a CUSTOM FIRMWARE AND YES IT CAN HAPPEN FOR A 3GS IT HAS ALREADY LOL BUT THE 3GS NEEDS TO BE ON 3.0BEFORE U GO TO THE CUSTOM FIRMWARE OF 3.1

yeah..but i'm pretty much screwed coz the baseband got upgraded..

the repair costed 130 dollars..then i bought a USB connector for 19.99..pretty much i've invested 150 dollars for a stylish brick that i got under my drawer..lol..but not until i get it activated by a valid at&t sim..

its doesn't even have to be a valid at&t sim...

You could always sell it.. at&t users are always looking for 3gs's. I'm sure on 3bay that thing will sell for well over 400.

i dont intend to sell it yet..i'm planning to use it as an ipod touch..

and i think i'm just goin to wait for the unlock..or look for this guy here [3G Fully Unlock] Sweet as pineApple! - SiNfuL iPhone when i go back to the philippines..
