No recovery mode?? any suggestions?

my iphone 3g will only go into recovery mode for about 3 seconds, then automatically reboot. Whenever i attempt to restore. It will enter recovery mode but because it wont stay in recovery mode, it will not restore. My device FW is 3.1.2....is anyone else experienced this??

have u tried putting it in dfu mode?

f you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that doesnt work, let me know and I will try to see if I can figure something else out

Thank you all for your help! I tried everything you all said and it didn't work at first, BUT I just tried to put it in recovery mode and It worked!!! I owe it all to you guys
