error 1015 is recovery mode, try google it, there is a lot of solution out there.

look at this thread Plz help unlock 3GS 3.1.3 (7e18) 05.02.01 MC - SiNfuL iPhone post number 7 is the guide, just use 3.1.3 instead of 4.1

It is possible, you install a custom firmware on the 3gs, made from 3.1.3 or download one like this Firmware 3.1.3 Pre-Jailbroken Custom IPSW Files - SiNfuL iPhone

I have successfully done it to a 3GS so I can confirm that it works

hi mate if you restore your handsetm and when you get error code 1015 use recboot to get out of recoverymode, and restart pc , and connect to iitunes

hello get the ipsw of fw you want to use go int to itunes hit restore an at same time hit shift an hold it down for 10 to 15 m,but befor u do that download tinyumbrella,to kick u out of itunes screen restore,its works every time i go from 3.1.2 to 4.1 or what u want,some say it dont work,but it does for me every time,it cant hurt to try,any trouble leave me a pm an ill walk u threw it....
