Pretty much the only option your have (because there is no way to use the cable to do what you want) is to add a wireless card that supports 802.11 adhoc networking into your computer which you can then setup as an access point (basically like a router in your PC) and connect your iPhone through WiFi to this new AP.

But in the end, the cost of a wireless adapter for your computer and the time involved in setting it up, it would be easier/cheaper to buy a $10-20 WRT54G router from craigslist and connect your PC's internet line from upstairs to LAN1 of the router, now any PC that hooks to the router's LAN2-4 or wirelessly will link up with your main network upstairs. Leave the WAN port alone and do not use it. This is a quick and simple way to have a wireless switch basically and the best part is it DHCP's from the main router upstairs.

For even more options in the router you can learn about DD-WRT and install it onto the WRT54G router you get. I do this all over the house and set them up as repeaters for the main WiFi signal, so no matter where in the house we are, there is a strong wireless signal and a router to plug into if wireless is not an option in the computer. And the best part is that all the computers network and DHCP from only one router so it makes sharing a breeze.

if your iphone is able to connect to your office's wifi, then yes, mywi supports that.
