iOS 4.2 Custom Firmware (anyone have?) edited by widow
Hey guys.
I am aware that Apple have seeded iOS 4.2.1 to the Developers. I want it more on my iPad but since I have not signed up to the the Apple Developers Program with it, I cannot install it. But I have signed up to it with my iPhone 3GS! I also seen that Cydia worked on iOS 4.2.1 if you create it with Pwnagetool which I don't have as I'm a Windows User.
So, I'm calling out to anyone if they have an iPhone 3GS iOS 4.2.1 Firmware that I could install onto my iPhone 3GS which you have found on the internet or perhaps created yourself?
Thank You.

I have created a few custom firmwares with pwnage. Both for the 3GS and the Iphone 4. However, Cydia is still crashing upon startup. I have tried numerous ways to get Cydia running, but its still a no go. Once Cydia is updated for the 4.2.1 jailbreak, then we should be good to go. Pwnage tool works fine just the way it is. Cydia is the hold up. Damn it.
With that being said. The install goes well and it does preserve the baseband. The rest of iOS 4.2.1 seems to be working without a problem.

New Cydia and mobilesubtrance have been updated this morning. Can you try to make them again? Regards.

Yes pwnage is untethered. But Cydia still does not work. iOS 4.2.1 still works perfect and you can turn the iphone 4 off/on without losing anything. Problem is Cydia (at this point). Atleast as for as i can see.

The Same Here
Add me to the list of custom 4.2.1 FW seekers. For me it would be easier to have a custom IPSW of 4.2.1 and overwrite its *.img3 files to put my iPhone into the DFU rather than doing it with the Wake/Sleep + Home Button combination using RedSn0w. That's why I'm looking for the custom firmware and would be really grateful if anyone pointed me to where I could find it, or uploaded it and provided the link

I sincerely hope there is an unlock released for 5.14.02 and above users in the coming few weeks! That would make the tasks for all users much easier . Kudos to the developers though nothing should be taken away from them.

Perhaps this will sound as a dumb question, but can anyone tell me which files withing the IPSW determine the Bootrom for which the FW is made (there have to be some, since some FW's are meant for Old, and others for new Bootrom)? I'm asking this because I have started thinking that since you can manipulate the files within an IPSW just as if it was a ZIP file, perhaps you can copy files responsible for running FW made for the New Bootrom and paste them into a FW made for the Old Bootrom? This way all of us who want to download 4.2.1 for the 3GS with New Bootrom could modify the IPSW themselves, and no one would have to take time with uploading such an IPSW.
I'm not sure if such a solution is possible, I'm just asking

the answer is no.
i put up the photo to show that baseband is 5.11.07. that baseband is from firmware 3.1 and 3.1.2. that means that baseband will remain whatever you had prior to install this custom firmware
