Jailbreaking iPhone 4 (4.1) on a contract

If you're on a contract, will the mobile phone provider know you've jailbroken your iphone?

Just Obv. Don't try and claim warranty if you hav a problem without restoring to factory

Thanks, Anyone know why Pwnage asks if it's on a contract or not? What does Pwnage change or not change on the iPhone when jailbreaking it?

PT asks because it needs to know if the custom firmware should be activated or unactivated. Usually the phone is activated by the carrier, but if you're on an unofficial carrier, PT needs to activate the firmware for you.

Its a good question but i think its only an issue when it comes to apples techinical support. If you have jailbroken your phone then it develops faults, its only fair for them to assume youve been "cocking about" doing things with the decvice your not meant to do, so any problem isnt really there fault.

There was a thread on here a few weeks ago about a guy who took his phone to an apple care centre and it was jailbroken, the genious dude looked at the phone and pointed to a mac and said "do a restore then il look at it again"

fair enough really. You never know if apple write into thier small print "if a phone is jailbroken , its against our terms and conditions wether legal or not so any warantee or gurantee is void" and then your screwed.

So for genreal use, no one really cares if your device is jailbroken or not. It only becomes an issue if you need a repair or techincal support.

My last iphone 4 was jailbroken, the camera stopped working so i did a restore to clean the phone, took it to an apple centre and they swapped it for a brand new iphone4. If they REALLY REALLY wanted to they "might" have been able to tell if it had been previously jailbroken and ask me to return the phone. But they havnt so everything is good.

As far as i know from this forum, once you do a restore, all previous evidence of jailbreaking is removed and its a fresh phone again as Jailbreaking is just a software thing not hardware.
