How to Jailbreak PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.55, And Install Custom Packages [Guide]

After releasing PS3 root keys publicly this week, followed by a video showing homebrew running on firmware 3.55, Geohot has now released jailbreak for PlayStation 3 firmware 3.55.

it’s jailbreak time
open the zip, you know how to install
3.55 only

How to Jailbreak PS3 on v3.55 Firmware:

1. Plug a USB stick into your computer
2. Create a folder in the root of the USB stick called PS3
3. Create a folder inside the PS3 folder called UPDATE
4. Download http://geohot.com/jailbreak.zip
5. Unzip Jailbreak.zip to PS3UPDAT.PUP
6. Move PS3UPDAT.PUP to the directory UPDATE that you just created on the USB stick
7. Plug the USB stick into your PS3
8. Navigate to Settings Tab
9. Choose System Update
10. Choose Update via Storage Media
11. It will say it found Version 3.55-jb
12. Choose OK
13. Accept Conditions and Install Update
14. After less than a minute, your PS3 will update, beep 4 times then shut down.
15. Power up your PS3 (You will have to do it on the console and not by the controller)
16. Your PS3 is now jailbroken!

How to Install Custom Packages on PS3 v3.55 Firmware:

1. Plug your USB stick into your computer
2. Drop http://geohot.com/test.pkg into the root of the USB stick
3. Plug your USB stick into your PS3
4. Navigate to the Game Tab
5. Choose Install Package Files
6. Select the test.pkg
7. After it installs you will find the test package from geohot installed below the Install Package Files folder
8. Wait for more packages to be created by the PS3 community

1. Can sony detect jailbroken systems.
2. Capabilities.

So is this only for homebrew or well this allow you to play games you download?

I can confirm it works. You can also put all the file in the USB from the get go.

NO you can go online all you want cause your ps3 is at the latest update 3.55

Detection: Limited

Capablities: Homebrew Apps, Games, Ports, Emulators, Playing PSX/PS2 Games (Backup Manager) Will come soon even though the people that created this are against piracy. I have a feeling someone will release on for the hell of it.

So far only for homebrew.. (Just Geohots Sup Dawg Picture works) Just wait for someone to create and sign a backup manager.

Im gonna hang on, im on V3.41 using a maximus AVR to create back ups and install homebrew, but this PS3 CFW Evilnat BETA Arrives and BackUp Loader WIP Detailed - PSX PS2 PS3 Scene Modchip & Jailbreak Community looks intresting. Should be handy if they make it

3.41 is limited to only games that run 3.4.1.. New Games can not be played. Ill stick to official sony firmware so far until some good packages are released.

They cant ban your PS3.. Ban as it allow it not to be played. Out of all the people that are doing this do you really think sony is going to take thousands of hours to waste their time? Basically its my console, I paid 300+ for it and Im going to do what i want with it. Look back at PSJailbreak... NO ONE GOT BANNED. It was as SIMPLE as buying a USB thingy plugging it in and not having online was fine. The console is completly compromised. Only new hardware would fix their huge security hole.

Soon they will release a backup manager to save your games onto your HD.. Even though its not what geohot, fail0verflow inteneded this to be for. Newer games will be played because they require 3.55

make_self_npdrm makes valid NPDRM selfs from elfs
it does not contain any info on decrypting or removing NPDRM
NPDRM is required for interoperability of our homebrew applications
package_finalize turns your debug packages into psuedoretail packages
psuedoretail packages install on a geohot jailbroken PS3

you will not be ban. Now that this code have been release sony cannot ban you since we now have the officially sony signing codes. all sony can do now is hope we still buy there games lol.

yes, but i need online with it cause my 2 main games are online games, black ops and bfbc2.

also, they could make it auto ban like microsoft did/do

sorry, ive never have jb a ps3 before and id love to do it, but if i cant get online cause my system gets banned, then ill stay away. the backup manager sounds amazing and i really want that... the homebrew stuff i dont get... but like i said, im new to the ps3 jb seen. i feel like an iphone jb newb
