Installing DEB's with iFile

Got tired of trying to teach people on how to add DEB files using Mobile terminal so I made this video for the people that didn't know it was easier or even possible to just use iFile to do all the work for you

^ ???

1. SSH .deb file into /private/var/mobile.

2. Open iFile and find file.

3. Click on Installer option.

4. Done.

***

If you don't know how to SSH, download winSCP on your pc and openSSH on your iPhone.

1. Install and run winSCP.

2. Make sure openSSH is ON on your iPhone (if you have SB Settings, make sure SSH toggle is ON).

3. Click NEW session on winSCP.

4. Host name is the WiFI IP address listed on your iPhone. The IP address is listed when you open SB settings on the bottom half. Note that the IP address needed is something like 192.157.0.13 and not the 00:43:11:E9:92:2D format.

5. User name is "root" by default.

6. Password is "alpine" by default.

7. Click SAVE and click LOGIN.

Now find /var/mobile and follow the instructions above. You might want to change default root and mobile passwords "alpine" for security reasons. You can do that with mobile terminal or simply by using winSCP.

Good luck.

I just googled "how to install deb file with ifile" and this thread came up. I forgot what directory to drop the .deb file and my post above helped me.

Thank you me from the past! =D

Good video Dude!

However, i've got a problem here.

Dled ifile with the keygen and tried to run the keygen using iFile, didn't appear the option to install keygen. Instead, gotten many options: open with pdf, web, notes, media...etc. Any idea why? How to deal with this?

If I download the .deb (say from here) through my phone (not via pc) and use file to move the .deb to /private/var/mobile
Then Click on Installer option, shouldn't that work? I'm trying it with auto3g and I don't think it's working. The goal is not not use the pc at all.

Is it a problem if I do not have a "Downloads" folder in /var/mobile/library with iFile? Instead the download went to a /var/mobile/Documents folder. Is that a problem? I tried to download something and it didnt work, I was just trying to figure out if its a deb file issue or if I'm an idiot. Thx

If you change your root password from alpine to something else, the ifile installer doesnt work - it gives the message "dpkg: requested operation requires supervisor privilege"

if you changed your root password, seems like you'll need to install debs through ssh (or change your password back to alpine)

please correct me if im wrong

Half correct and half wrong .

Correct is what you said about the changed password.

But with ios 4 there are some permission problems.Ifile is actually not abble due to the superuser privileges that are needed to install debs even if you gave the 0755 permissions to the file .That is Ios 4.2.1 related ifile needs to be updated .

Easiest way is to ssh the deb to cydias autoinstall folder . Reboot -- Done .

Let me google that for you

some cracked debs dont work through autoinstaller - or, they do, but piracy messages shut them down. from what ive read, installing through dpkg seems to correct that

---------- EDIT ----------

i guess the simplest is just to naviate to var/mobile in terminal and then run: dpkg -i "filename". works for me at least

Just double checked, and it is there and I was able to find it via a search.
Have you tried looking within the Sinful source itself instead of searching?
In Cydia, go to manage--->Sources---> Sinful iPhone Repo and then scroll through the packages till you get to Safari Download Manager.

I realize this thread is old and the YouTube doesn't work in the OP.

Can somebody help me on how to install some of these cydia deb.zip apps. I extract and instead of getting a single .deb file I've got 2 .gz files and one debian-binary file.

How do I install them I'm a little confused here? I do have Cyberduck and iFile, the extracted folders are sitting in my /root directory already.
