iOS 4.3 vs iOS 4.2.1 Safari Web Browsing Speed Comparison
At Apple’s iPad 2 Event earlier this week, one of the major improvements in iOS 4.3 was Mobile Safari performance.
Steve Jobs claimed that Apple has included the new Nitro JavaScript engine in iOS 4.3 which now powers Safari. According to Apple, the new Nitro JavaScript engine, not only improves web browsing responsiveness, but also runs JavaScript up to twice as fast as iOS 4.2.1, resulting in web pages and interactive features loading faster than ever before.
Well, the folks over at iSpazio decided to test it out and see exactly how much faster Safari is on iOS 4.3 GM compared to iOS 4.2.1. The results yielded iOS 4.3 to be a a few seconds faster. Although it isn’t a huge difference, faster is always good, right? Check it out for yourself in the video below!

Ok, so the natural question is has anyone been able to strip out the new Safari for use with <4.3 users who don't want to upgrade to 4.3.

I'm sure 4.3 is nice, but I'm not going to get anywhere near 4.3 until there is a reliable untethered jailbreak.

Good info but I see it as just another of the ploy's used by apple with each new release to drag as many users along with the new iOS as possible. I'll wait until we see just what we lose with 4.3, like USB power limitations in 4.2.1.... I got suckered on that one..... My own fault.

I don't even have the "try before you buy" option. I'm using my Iphone on a non-approved network here in the states. I'd lose my unlock and the phone would become a very expensive doorstop.

Exactly. Just another ploy to force people to upgrade. I'm sure some smart person will find out how to breakout the Safari portion though
More info on the USB power limitation please?

In a nutshell, < 4.2.1 allow USB devices (flash drive as an example) to connect through the camera kit if you used a file browser like iFile. Post upgrade, I learned that apple reduced the power limit through the USB camera kit to 20mA from 100 mA previously. The bottom line is some flash drives won't work, particularly if they have an LED... To much power consumption for crapple's liking.
There are a few threads under iPad section and a ton of articles if you search google - hence, my own fault

Would be cool if javascripts would run a bit faster, cos then my failed lockscreen project will stop being jerky on the iPhone, works fine in Safari.
