How to update without losing apps?
Help! How can i update my firmware version from iOS 4.1 to 4.2 without erasing my installed apps and games?

uhhh sync with itunes and reinstall them after the restore maybe?

 Conncet the iPhone to iTunes and back up, then after its backed up, update the iPhone then restore from back up.

Back them up first. use appbackup from cydia., as Itunes will often miss some apps.

In itune bakup only contacts,photos,messages,mails,notes,background will save
itune never save your .ipa for sure
for cydia aplication use backup aplication instal from cydia and for above mentions use itune backup there is no chance to save .ipa

Right click device - Transer Purchases, will do the same as backing up the .ipa's, but as stated above, you will probably lose all your game saves unfortunately.

Sometimes, on numerous occasions, u don't even need to backup, just restoring in iTunes will do it(this only happens when u are upgrading from let say 4.1 to 4.2 something in that scenario) but as always, it's good to backup
