iPod Touch 2G MC 4.2.1 won't go into DFU mode

One of my friends gave me his iPod Touch to jailbreak a while back but it is absolutely refusing to go into DFU mode which is crucial to jailbreak it. I have tried Greenpois0n, a ton of tutorials, and watch many videos but none of them work. I even downgraded the iPod to 4.1 but still had no luck. Is there any way to get this iPod in DFU mode? Is there a program that can do it for me? Please Help!
Thanks!

How long are you holding the home key?
I've know it take 30 seconds - time it with a stop watch.

1. Press both power and home buttons at same time
2. wait 10 seconds
3. release power, still pressing home
4. wait 20 seconds, release home , idevice should appear off
5. execute tool.
If I helped you, please randomly thank someone else

No really, hit that thanks button..

Nope, didn't work. If I try this method with the iPod on it only takes screenshots and if I do it with the iPod off it just boots up normally. It is so weird!

finally got it to work

this works for ipod touch 2g 4.2.1

this is how you do it but it IS for windows users only no idea sorry on macs
i have listed down the best way of doing it and it works fine lets hope it works for the rest of the mc users like me of the 2g

########################################################
DFU Mode - The sound method (Windows ONLY! Alternative method)

For those Windows user, turn up your speakers.

You know when you connect something via USB, there's a sound that will ring? Use that sound as your cue.

Here's a variation:

Step 1: Connect to PC via the dock connector. Doesn't matter if iTunes is up or not.

Step 2: Hold Home button

Step 3: Hold Standby button

Step 4: When "Slide to turn off" appear, ignore it.

Step 5: Now you listen for the "USB out" sound. You should be able to tell if the device is disconnected from your PC. Now you can lift your Standby button. The screen should be blank.

Step 6: Now you listen for the "USB in" sound. You should be able to tell if the device is connected to your PC. Now you can lift your Home button. The screen IS STILL BLANK.

Step 7: If all goes well, your device should be blank and iTunes will launch by itself. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN ON YOUR DEVICE (well, you can't do that anyway). You can now perform a manual restore.

once you are in the mode
then start greenpois0n rc6
it will say instantly at the bottom ( theres not need to do any button pressing ie home and sleep)
jailbreak and let it run

works a treat then run cydia
hope this helps all those that are hassled by the mc version that seems to not jailbreak or go into dfu mode right of the ipod 2g 4.2.1

all the best

I had a he'll of a time jailbreaking mine an 8gb 3G which is an MC model. When I downgraded to 4.0 and used another PC it worked like a charm.
Stupidity should be painful!

Similar to Hollywood's situation, there was no way I was able to get my 8GB iPod Touch 2g MC into DFU for any of the jailbreak options (greenpois0n, sn0wbreeze, etc.). Frustrated, I finally gave in and downgraded to firmware 4.0 and simply used jailbreakme.com successfully.

Still awaiting a solution to get me back up to 4.2.1

Non working button and DFU

Hi guys,
I'm repeating my post from another forum, but the solution is so simple but it took me 2 hrs to find it, so I try to make it a little easier to be found.

I couldn't manage to get my ipod in DFU (found out it was because the Home button is lazy) and I was almost giving it up when I thought to myself it is not possible that apple did not foresee a programatic (read SW) way to go into that F$&cking mode.

So I started searching the Internet for this kind of solutions and finally found RecBoot! This is a wonderful program it does just what I wanted to do!

So if you have this issue, RecBoot is a small program (~700k) that just offers a button to select the mode you want, then you plug the device and boom! it goes into the mode!

I was really happy!

Just google Recboot v1.3 (windows x32) or Recboot v2.2 (MAC).

Unfortunately this seems not to work in Win7 x64 (I was lucky, I have 32)

Good luck!

Bernard
