[How To] ATV Enable BT Keyboard support

Everybody hates text import with the apple remote,
that why their is a package to make bluetooth keyboards working on a ATV2.

1. SSH into your ATV2
2. type: apt-get install ch.ringwald.keyboard-atv
3. type: apt-get install org.tomcool.btstack-ui
4. type: killall AppleTV

Now you have everything setup and it's time to pair the keyboard.

5. In Frontrow goto Settings -> Custom Settings -> BTStack

and starts searching for your BT Keyboard.
It took me some fiddeling to get the keyboard in pairing mode,
but after turning on the keyboard and a quick 3 presses on the keyboard made it pair.

Type in 0000 and press enter, and you are done

You can use this keyboard in the main menu and in XBMC enjoy!

Device: AppleTV 2G
Firmware: iOS 4.3

Is there a way to make this working if I have Mac OS X 10.7.1 (Lion) which does not have Frontrow?
Does the AppleTV remember the keyboard and re-connect automatically or I need to do this procedure every time I turn OFF/ON the AppleTV?

Thank you for this. I am a new ATV2 user. I followed the steps but cannot find the BT settings in frontrow as explained in the procedure. Should they be added automatically? Can you tell me how to find it?

oh oh, seems to be broken on IOS 4.4.4 jailbroken with SeasonPass. Everything loads and looks good as per the instuctions at the beginning of this thread. It shows that it finds the BT Keyboard and then crashes out to main menu before it can connect. It worked great on IOS 4.2.2 jailbroken with SeasonPass.

I installed this and used an older Apple BT keyboard. Its alright and all but I find that using Rowmote on my iPhone works a lot better. Smaller, mobile keyboard that fits in my pocket.

I have no clue what I'm doing wrong I did install BTStack with nitoTV and did reboot
Then I went to Settings -> Custom Settings -> BTStack and it found Apple Wireless Keyboard
-> I hit Ok and I see pairing Mode on the Apple TV = '0000' So I guess I have to type in 0000 on the Apple Wireless Keyboard but nothing happen. I did try to turn off and on the Wirless Keyboard but no pairing happen???

Edit: Never mind after 2 reboots and trying another 5 times somehow it finaly did pair it

And I agree the Remode HD with iPad 2 is much easier lol

hey guys sorry to bring this back lol but will this work with any bluetooth keyboard or only the apple bluetooth keyboard? and can this be done on atv 2 with 5.0.2?

Can you use the iPhone's keyboard to type in the search? I've only been able to choose each letter at a time.

Yes, using Rowmote you can access the full keyboard on the iphone to type into searches etc

To do this press the keyboard/mouse icon in the top left of the rowmote cursor control screen
