Is this what the iPhone 5 will look like?

Former Engadget editor Joshua Topolsky has heard that the iPhone 5 will get a radical teardrop redesign with a 3.7-inch screen and a home button gesture area.

Our sources say the new model (or at least one of the new designs in testing) looks "more like the iPod touch than the iPhone 4." The phone will be thinner than the iPhone 4, and may have a "teardrop" shape which goes from thick to thin (something along the lines of the MacBook Air profile).

Topolsky notes that the home button is enlarged and doing double duty as a gesture area. The screen is also enlarged and occupies most of the device, meaning almost no bezel.

Our source says the company is doing very "interesting things" with bonded glass technology, and has been exploring designs where the earpiece and sensors are somehow behind the screen itself, making for a device where the display is actually edge-to-edge.

It's estimated that the screen will be 3.7-inches and keep the current resolution giving it a pixel density of 312ppi, 13ppi lower than the current iPhone 4. This density would still qualify as a Retina Display.

A sketch their source provided shows some form of inductive or touch charging.

Our sources can’t confirm whether or not Apple’s working on its own version of cable-free juicing. There’s also a "swipe area" shown in the drawing which appears to be on the bottom and / or top of the device — that could very well be an NFC point, but that’s pure speculation on our part.

Apple is not expected to unveil the iPhone 5 until their fall. Topolsky expects the phone to be a global device which runs on a Qualcomm chip.

OMG that's soo ugly!! Lucky I have an iPhone 4, didn't apple try to sue a compony for copying the design of iDevices( now I think of it it was a tablet) and that looks exactly the same as another smartphone( don't bag me about my memory :P )

Pretty ugly, but if its as thin as an iPod Touch, that would be awesome. I love how thin the iTouches are, so definitely hoping its as thin as one.

erm guys......... this is a mock up/guess/rumour type thing

no one knows ANYTHING about the iphone 5, no one even knows if its going to be called 5 or 4g or 4gs, if its going to be round, flat, opens in 2 peices.

Besides, even if a design was leaked, it will probably change 10 times before final release anyway

Well, To the iPHone 5, So far, All are rumors, and that's only mockup! So the real iPHone we should don't know, and only the Apple know, but it won't let's know until it's going to release~
Hmm, also read this "Engineering images of iPhone 5 leaked?" in iFunia news blog, but seems that is not an image of the iPhone 5, I will say that if the real iPhone 5 has a back of similar design (and gorgeous brushed grain), it will be the first iPhone that looks better than the original.

But anyways, knowing Apple, whether it has an Aluminum, Glass, or Liquid Metal back it will turn out great!

k , from the point that they might not do it in idevice related things ,but with the airbook is this design already been done and inpublic .
So i wouldnt be surprised if the bring ip kinda some design. IPhone 4 is also a ugly bitch ,one of the reasons i set all my hopes in the 5th gen iphone .
