Lawsuit Alleges AT&T Overcharges iPhone and iPad Customers for Data

A new lawsuit alleges that AT&T is overcharging iPhone and iPad customers on almost every single data transaction.

After hearing a lot of complaints, lawyers say they spent $80,000 testing several devices using different carriers over a period of months, including four iPhones and iPads. They say they found that AT&T systematically overstated the amount of data use on virtually every transaction. That can add up to overcharges for millions of consumers.










Attorney Barry Davis likens this situation to a rigged gas pump. An independent computer firm was hired to precisely measure data use. They found AT&T was systematically overcharging for data by 7% to 14% for every single transaction.

AT&T and app developers are going to get their asses put in a sling over this.

App developers were developing apps that would "phone home" and deliver data or search for updates overnight without the user knowing.

At&t's defense is that this is the mysterious extra data usage people were seeing on their bills. However, if such was the case and At&t knows there was an issue they had a duty to inform consumers of the fraudulent charges and not charge them, but rather send a cease and desist letter to the app developers or make and 'opt out' feature available on the app.

Yup and I'm hoping were all going to get a percentage back haha. Didn't verizon have a similar problem? Oh that would explain why my phone always connect to 3G whenever I'm at home with wifi.

Funny how dumb people are. They don't understand how the billing works and they don't know what goes on in their phone. When the bill says night charges, that is when bill data is collected, not when you are using data. iPhone apps send background data all the time

Haha, I know you can't be talkin to me. Never said anything about night charges but whenever my phone is locked it automatically pulls up 3G regardless of time of day. Anyways I review my bill faithfully and never has there been a nightly charge. Thanks for tryin to share info though

I bet you don't know what the stoiciometric air fuel value of your vehicles engine is. Or that the stated horsepower and torque figure is not exactly what your engine produces and as such your fuel consuption can be off as much as 1mpg.

Does this make you dumb or just under informed?

Ok but does anyone know why it does that 3G thing then switch back to wifi? It happened before today and there should be no reason for this.

The phone will not stay constantly connected to WIFI when locked, so, when you choose to unlock it,

it will connect to the usual 3G (Edge if no 3G avaliable).

Then it will check if there's a WIFI connection avaliable and connect to that after about 1 or 2 seconds.

Hunt these bastards down as much as possible. Screw them left and right as much as you can. There's no greedier company than AT$T, not even gas companies.
I purchased a business recently and was promised $138/month for a phone service from AT$T. To no surprise first bill comes at $523 (I receive phone calls only, no dial out). Will any idiot from congress WAKE THE FUCK up and put muzzle on this dog? Till what extent will customers be screwed up by these leeches and nobody will do anything to stop them?
