Installer 5 To Make a comeback and Triumph Cydia's "monster"

• The RiPDev founder, Slava Karpenko is working on the Cydia alternative Installer 5 •
Introduction:
Installer.app used to be an installer system for the iPhone long before Apple App Store was created. Later on, an alternative installation system, Cydia, was created and effectively superceeded Installer for numerous reasons.

The main reason is obviously Installer.app dying because the group supporting it, Ripdev, has died.

The second reason is repository owners switching to Cydia because it allowed repo owners to gain income by publishing their ad banners on the package information pages; the package format used by Cydia (DPKG) thought to be easier to build, too.

However, Cydia right now is a monster. Refreshes take ages, the whole app looks like... uh. And it needs 20M of BSD subsystem just to move some files over the filesystem. Ridiculous.

We're here to change that.

Philosophy
Installer.app has to be tiny. After all, Installer is about installing files, not about having an entire UN*X command set on your phone. To install files, it has to be able to copy files and directories around, change permissions and optionally run some pre- or postflight scripts.

The packages has to be made easily. In an ideal world, you wouldn't need to create a plist or dpkg file to install something. It has to be more simple. How? We will think of that.

A repository has to be easy to create and maintain. This is essential for repo owners.

"Before his appearance in the Cydia jailbreak scene has the package installer called Installer provided by the team of RiPDev. With the advent of iOS 3.0 put the team in June 2009 with the development of Installer 4. The founder of RiPDev Slava Karpenko reveals behind the scenes working on new installer to life in the form of version 5.0. About the new version of Installer is still little known, but the goal is to provide a faster alternative to Cydia to offer as an open source project based on an MIT license.

According to Slava Karpenko Cydia is now a monster, in part because of the need to constantly reload. The developer promises that Installer 5 will be small because it will focus on the core of a package installer: installing files, copying files and folders, change permissions, and optionally running scripts. In addition, the developer plans a new method to come up software (packages) to offer and have repositories (sources) and easier maintenance.
In May this year was already a working version of Installer 4 from 4.3.x to IOS dusted by Infini-Dev RiPDev their original repository and put back online. Because the Cydia repositories intended for could not be used in conjunction with Installer 4, this version was particularly interesting for users who still have a memory of earlier times would get. It is not known when Slava Karpenko intends to launch Installer 5."

It seems that there will be a competitor for Cydia. That is a benefit for us, the users, as they both will become better and better...

I think it's a little to late now. Just curious, does any major repo is backing up this project?
I guess Saurik learned that lesson really well from Apple: to create a functional ecosystem.

Will http://sinfuliphonerepo.com be an installer repo too?

BTW:
Comex Stated on Twitter: For aforementioned reasons Installer5 won't be widely accepted, but (along with Icy) it does unfairly delegitimize competition with Cydia.

I don't mind Cydia, but the reloading does take a certain appeal away. If something came along that was smaller and quicker than bring it on.

Yea guess saurik better get on the ball and do a complete rehaul like he once mentioned with winterboard. In my opinion it is way to slow for this time in age but does its job. Only time will tell I guess.
