Absolutely fantastic mod, did it to my iPhone and iPad right away. Definitely helps me wake up in the morning, I also had friends ask me how the hell my iPhone 4's speakers are so good.
If I have helped please press the little thanks button in the right hand corner

Thanks very much for this hack, my phone has driven me nuts since I got it with the volume being too quiet. Is there a way to do this with a macbook too (but I already wasted my money on Boom for that, still, would be nice to know if this might work on SL too.

Great guide! Thank you very much for this work, but i have a serious problem. Before this guide, in July i made changes by myself following other guides for older FW:

"I bought iPad 2 (Wifi+3G) with 4.3.3 firmware installed, i made the jailbreak through jailbreakme.com . Then i decided to remove the volume limitations to boost the volume. I found a guide, where it was written that the file /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/RegionalVolumeLimits.plist has to be deleted or modified. I modified its name to RegionalVolumeLimits.plist.no (i was doing all of this with headphones plugged in, not the native ipad/apple headphones, and i was doing these changes in iFile app). Then i rebooted my iPad. And here came the problems, unfortunately... Now Photobooth is not working, Camera is not working, MxTube quits when trying to watch a video, Safari quits when trying to watch a video, Buzz Player quits when trying to watch a video. Such problems. So i decided to rename again the file i modified, but after restoring the file nothing happened, my iPad remained with these problems..."

I'd be very glad if you could help me FIX my iPad! THANX!!!

Change value to 25, open youtube and compare the volume from IP4 to IP4S ... 4S is much louder
Tested on default ring tone , 4S is louder too

To bad I was not do this test before change value, will change IP4 back to 0.83 and report

---------- EDIT ----------

I has the same issue after change value to 25, youtube has sound no picture.
I reboot 2 times, everything work as normal, however I do not think the volume gain anything.

I will try to change back to 0.83 and test it again

This does absolutely nothing on iPhone IOS 5.0.1. I noticed no difference. My wife has unjailbroken iphone 4, compared with no difference.

This has nothing to do with volume limit or I did something wrong, which I doubt very simple thing to do.

I knew there was some other location for this file... this is a very useful reply, thanks a lot for the contribution.
