Upgrading from jailbroken iOS 4.1 to iOS 5
Hi all,
I am using a iPhone 4. I am not too good with upgrading firmwares, hence have been using 4.1 since it's jail-broken by a friend of mine.
Just a few questions:
1) Will i be able to retain all my applications that I downloaded from Installous if I were to update to iOS5?
2) If yes, how do i go about updating it once iOS 5 is released? Just click update from the iTunes when prompt? Will the jailbreak cause any issues updating it this way?
3) Is there any way to upgrade from jailbroken iOS 4.1 to iOS 4.3.5 jailbreak untethered without any changes in the iPhone?
Thanks so much for your time in advance.
Cheers,
arpeggi

1) No. You'll have to reinstall them.
2) It's being released today. Just hook up your iPhone and hit update.
3) No. 4.3.5 doesn't have an untethered jailbreak. Why do you want to go away from 4.1? Nothing wrong with it.

Thanks so much for the replies guys.
One last question:
Let's say when the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 is released, does updating from a jailbroken iOS 4.1 to the untethered jailbreak iOS5 requires me to reinstall all my installous applications and cydia applications? Or do I get to keep them and nothing's changed except for the iOS version?
I am using some theme at the moment at winterboard and would love to retain almost all of my settings.
Thanks for your time once again.

If you don't mind losing all tweaks, apps, and themes from being jailbroke, all you have to do is download the new iTunes (10.5) and let it check for updates. It will download and update your phone to 5. You might have issues with upgrading though. I usually do a fresh install of the iOS (by doing the shift+restore in iTunes). It seems to cut down on problems later on.

then just update normally through iTunes. Before you update though, make sure you backup your phone through iTunes. After the update to iOS5, then restore the backup to get all your settings, contacts, pictures back
as for apps, you'll loose your jailbroken apps. Make sure you have your "non-jailbroken" apps synced/backup somewhere so you don't have to re-download everything

SO I had a question and figure it fits in with this thread, so say I upgrade to iOS 5.0 and jailbreak it tethered, but an untethered jailbreak comes out, will I have to restore and rejailbreak for the untether or will I just be able to run the jailbreak over it again to untether it?

Just stick to 4.1 till untethered jailbreak for ios 5 is out
think most people will be waiting, but i bet 5.1.1 will be out with in a few weeks as every 1 starts finding bugs in iso 5

NO and NO, but you can get around that if you instal from cydia a backup app like iBye or xBackup, and backup all cydia data, before you do the jailbreak to ios5, obviously... do the JB and get from cydia that backup app you choose and from there get all the data you previously have saved

From what i believe it would be best to re jail break it again with the untethered exploit.

Thank you. I was figuring I'd have to restore and rejailbreak, I'm hoping they allow me to just run the jailbreak over the top of the tethered and make it untethered. Like they did before, with 4.3.3 I do believe. Something called monte? Idk.
