iphone 4 microphone/headphone help

i have a iphone 4 running ios5. the microphone isnt working ( people cannot hear me talking ) i started using the original heaphones with the microphone attatched so im able to talk on the phone. now the mic on the headphones doesnt work. i tried the headphones in another iphone 4, a 3gs and a 3g and it works fine in the other phones. it started doing this before it was jailbroken, after it was jailbroken and now i just did a stock restore through itunes and its back working through the headphones only. any ideas as to why this is happening??? i assumed it was a hardware issue, but im able to fix it temporarily after doing a full restore or jailbreak... im lost any help anyone could throw my way would be appreciated

My friend had the exact problem with his iPhone 4 as well. He fixed it by plugging in the headphones,, playing a song, stopping the song, unplugging the headphones, then lock and unlock the phone. It took 2 or 3 times when he did it. Something gets screwy with the headphone/speaker and the iPhone gets confused.

Thanks, this fixed my problem with the mic and volume controls instantly
