iBooks 1.5 Released: Nighttime Reading Theme, Full-Screen Layout And More!

A major update to Apple’s eBook solution iBooks has been released today.

The news comes straight from our iPhone in the form of an update for iBooks pushed out through the App Store.

Numbered at version 1.5, the update brings somewhat major features to the iBooks app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The two most important ones include a night-time reading theme that inverts colors so that you can read books on your iOS device at night without stressing your eyes and full-screen layout which, well, gets rid of the status bar and lets you read your book without any distractions!

Besides this, the app now allows you to choose from a great number of fonts, the annotation palette has been redesigned for custom-color highlighted text and, lastly, public domain books now get beautiful classic covers.

iBooks 1.5 adds the following new features as well as some stability and performance improvements:

• Nighttime reading theme makes reading books in the dark easier on the eyes.

• Full-screen layout lets you focus on the words without distraction.

• iBooks now features an improved selection of fonts, including Athelas, Charter, Iowan, and Seravek.

• Beautiful new classic covers for public domain books.

• A redesigned annotation palette makes it easier to choose a color for your highlighted text.

We’ve tested the update on an iPhone 4S on iOS 5 and can confirm that it works as claimed. The night-time reading and full-screen layout features are especially appreciated as they make reading on a non-eInk display (like the Kindle) a less stressful experience. Honestly, if you want the premium eBook-reading experience, you should get yourself one of Amazon’s new Kindle devices which start at just $79.

Thats the problem as well you see. What if when we jailbreak our devices then we have the same problem like before (crashes) and ended up looking for a fix over the internet hoping someone has released a patch/fix.

I think I gonna stay with the old version just in case apple is being too clever for my liking!

The night theme and the fonts are nice. And now we have a sans-serif one. I also like the new annotation palette.
The updated app seems faster to me (opening a new book or changing the font).
I hate the new full screen layout. I actually liked the status bar on the top. That's one of the reasons I switched from Stanza. Now, the new black strip seems kinda useless.

ih8sn0w confirmed that the fix in sn0wbreeze 2.8b10+ have the ibooks fix preinstalled in the kernals so anyone who jailbroke with that version of sn0wbreeze or version 2.8b11 you can install the update as usual it won't break anything.

but i used a version of sn0wbreeze before b10 so i had to install the fix manually. so i don't know how to update this thing because my ibooks like many others is not installed in
/var/mobile/applications; folder it is installed in the
/applications; folder so technically according to itunes and the appstore i don't even have ibooks 1.3.2 installed at all at the moment.

anyone figured out how to install the update using the existing fix? i.e the one that is on the insanelyi repo?

I have updated but not sure if I have a new bug or not. When I have music playing and open iBooks the music stops. I did not try this function before so not sure if I have a fail or this is normal behaviour.

Sync it through itunes, or put it in your phone via ifunbox and then locate the pdf file using ifile..there will be an option to open it with ibooks

Absolute correct!
And once the pdf file has been opened by iBook, it will be automatically synced with iTunes next time you connect with iTunes.
